Jappy is a photographer from Cavite, Philippines. He specializes in Fine Art, Commercial, Fashion and Architectural Photography. He is also a photography instructor in Philippine Center for Creative Imaging.
He owned his first DSLR in 2017 and was amazed on the difference it brought compared to traditional film cameras— which he vividly remembers as he owned a professional film camera in the late 90s.
First, photography was simply a hobby to him. He just used his camera leisurely during travels and for taking family photos. A year later, he became more passionate about photography and started attending workshops. He studied very hard to learn the ways and principles of digital photography. It helped a lot that his daughter is a professional child model. What was merely a pastime of taking his daughter’s photos turned out to be his greatest learning experience as it further enhanced his skills in lighting, composition, and post-processing.
With his daughter as his favorite subject, he fell in love with kids photography and in 2019, he started accepting clients— his first venture into commercial photography. As a start, he did a few open photoshoots for kids. And not too long before, he decided to pursue a career in photography.
In 2019, he enrolled in the Philippine Center for Creative Imaging (PCCI) and earned a Diploma in Photography. This formally introduced him to different photography genres. Architecture and Interior Photography also captured his heart. He sees beauty in things that, at a glance, look normal to the ordinary eye.
He believes that photography is an endless learning process. There are always new things to learn, new frames to capture, and more angles to explore.
